The great thing about the six Manhattan Housing Works Thrift Stores is that any money you spend goes back to the Housing Works organization, which provides support to the homeless men and women living with HIV/AIDS in New York City. Although the shops’ selections are generally hit or miss, you can sometimes score good vintagey clothes, shoes, and furniture for reasonable prices. Plus, can drop off your second-hand stuff at any of the locations in exchange for a tax deduction, or if you are looking to get rid of old furniture, Housing Works will pick it up–for free! (So much better than you and your roommate dragging your couch out of your fourth floor walk up, and eventually just ditching it on the sidewalk). And if you are in the mood to volunteer, Housing Works always needs help staffing their stores. Housing Works Thrift Stores is filed under Shops: Vintage, House: Closet (Donations), and House: Moving (Furniture Donations)
