If you are a working girl who wants to volunteer, but can’t commit time during the week because your day job often keeps you well past dinner, we’ve got a suggestion for you: Check out Girls On The Run, a national-non profit organization that uses running as a means to empower pre-teen girls to choose healthy lifestyle habits. The 12-week games-based program is taught by volunteer coaches at schools and community centers both after school and on the weekends, and culminates with a 5K run-walk celebration. The Manhattan branch was founded in 2006, volunteers are needed to help out with everything from coaching and writing grants to organizing fundraisers and doing PR, so lace up your sneaks and get involved! Girls On The Run is filed under Free Time: Volunteering (Time and Skills).
