October is an important month–and not only because it’s post-season baseball time. It’s also Breast Cancer Awareness month, which is why we felt compelled to draw your attention to Save Second Base, a New York City based non-profit of young professionals committed to raising money for organizations affiliated with the Susan G. Komen foundation. Saving Second Base’s founder, Marisa Lee, felt her call to action shortly after mother was diagnosed in 2005 with stage 4 metastatic breast cancer. The inspiration for her organization came from what she describes as, “a particularly dramatic episode of Grey’s Anatomy and one too many cocktails,”—and with that, a foundation was born. Committed to both raising money for breast cancer research and also increasing young people’s awareness of the disease, the foundation’s tag line is: Engaging Today’s Generation To Find Tomorrow’s Cure. At the moment, the main fundraising efforts of the organization are done by hosting events in cities such as New York, Chicago, Washington, DC, and Los Angeles, which has the dual effect of bringing the message—and a whole lot of fun—to young people across the country. Support the fight against breast cancer and breast cancer awareness month by giving to Save Second Base.
