The Annex is a sort of newer venue, and made its name through associating with a couple of top bloggers and record label staffers. In exchange for getting a chance to play DJ and hostess, these scenesters brought with them their favorite bands who started playing impromptu late night gigs and their own DJ sets. Cobra Starship debuted there and the Stolen Transmission roster (the label of Rob Stevenseon, the A&R rep who discovered Fallout Boy and The Killers, and Ultragrrl, the blogger who gets credit for popularizing The Killers and My Chemical Romance) might as well call it a rehearsal space. –Frank Woodworth
