Need to get out of Manhattan for a day? The Brooklyn Museum, a Neo-Classical building with a UFO-looking gizmo strategically placed on its roof, is perfect option. Not only does it have both a large permanent collection that rivals the Met’s and loads of amazing exhibitions (it housed Annie Leibovitz’s show last year), but it’s also located on a vast complex of lush greenery encompassing Prospect Park, Brooklyn Botanical Gardens, and the Prospect Park Zoo. Oh stop, “But it’s in Brooooooklyn” isn’t a good excuse for not going: It’s only a 30 minute trip from Midtown, and the subway stops right outside the museum. Need more convincing? At only $8 a ticket, it won’t hurt your pocketbook, and it stays open until 11 p.m. on the first Saturday of each month (with free admission from 5 p.m. until close on that particular Saturday). –-Cassandra Handley
