Imagine this series of events: you walk down glamour-ridden Fifth Avenue, step into a quintessential New York City department store, find the nearest elevator, and ride up to the ninth floor. The elevator doors open and overlook one of the most beautiful views the city has to offer. Sound like a dream? In more ways than one, the John Barrett Salon at Bergdorff Goodman is like the best dream you’ve ever had. Getting groomed while looking out over The Plaza and Central Park is heavenly, but the real reason to make your appointment is the talent. Jay Ree is a stylist extraordinaire; with both a British accent and charm, he has an uncanny ability to shape hair to flatter your face. One of his tricks—have you stand for a few minutes while he cuts. “I figure that if I have to stand, you should too,” he jokes (but in all seriousness, it actually gives him an eye level view of what he is doing). Using only products from John Barrett’s amazing Elementage line, such as the Be Cleansed shampoo, the Be Conditioned conditioner and, our fav, the Be Healed styling masque (it’s truly amazing!), the experience leaves you counting down the days until your next appointment.

Need a nap? We all do. Need a power nap in the middle of the day? The conveniently located YELO has your back, literally. In a miraculously quiet environment nestled on 57th Street near Columbus Circle, you can be tucked under a warm blanket, recline in a zero gravity chair at the center of your own napping room, and be treated to a remarkably tranquil 20-40 minute reflexology session, YELOnap, or combination of both. While it seems like a scenario from preschool, the adult touch comes in the choice the sounds (such as ocean waves, bird calls, and white noise) and fresh, non-caffeinated tea (of course!) presented at the door. And the best part: there is no need to keep your eye on the clock, because once it’s time to wakeup, a simulated sunrise takes place within your sleeping pod which gradually wakes up your senses, reinvigorated your mind, and permits you to leave the premises feeling as though you just got hours of sleep. Yelo comes highly recommended. –Cassandra Handley

From the chic atmosphere to the incredibly nice and knowledgeable staff, an afternoon at Bumble and Bumble’s uptown location is a fabulous experience. Their colorists know what they are doing, which is always a plus (when one urbanista—me, haha—wanted to tone down her blonde highlights, the stylist found the perfect natural looking color that she loved), and the stylists can be trusted to give you a modern and fresh cut that will customize to create your signature look (but if you are there for a haircut, do beware: B&B is still the home of the razor cut, which looks amazing on some, but it’s not for everyone, as it can be hard to style yourself). A trip to B&B is def pricey, but magazine editors, celebrities, socialites, and models continue to flock to the salon for a reason. And if you cringe at the price tag, try the B&B University to get cut or colored by a trainee. By the way, the salon’s products are great as well: Try the new hair powder, which is great for those days you just can’t be bothered to wash your hair (dude, you know you have those days too). –Kristin Koch

Upper East Side prepsters flood this joint on Saturday and Sunday afternoons for the delicious cheeseburgers and one-of-a kind cottage fries, along with the restaurant’s strong-but-tasty Boody Marys. The space is tight and almost always crowded, and sometimes people line up out the door to grab a meal. During the week, couples in work attire and an older crowd often storm the bar and restaurant, making for an always noisy but fun environment, and when the weather gets warm, the restaurant offers outdoor seating. The American menu is pretty standard, but definitely order the thick hamburger, which is JG Mellon’s signature dish. Not in the mood for a burger? Try their steaming hot chili. But beware, the service is not ideal, and you may wait a bit for your grub to arrive—but trust us, it’s well worth the wait. And don’t forget to save room for desert: Their homemade pies are unbeatable. –Kristin Koch
