As the real estate bubble continues to inflate here in this crazy city of ours, a remarkable trend has begun to take shape - bakers are leaving their kitchens and hitting the road. Check out these two new road-side spots for unique and delicious sweets:
The Treats Truck
Kim Ima gets credit for starting this terrific trend. This super friendly owner/baker/driver can be spotted all over town parked in her silver truck, Sugar, serving homemade cookies and brownie bars. The cookies are king-sized, and each bite is a total delight! While she is most famous for her caramel crème sandwich (and it is delicious), this Urbanista’s very favorite is the peanut butter sandwich - two soft crumbly peanut butter cookies, with more pb stuffed in the middle for good measure. Heaven! If you’re lucky, your treats truck stop will include a free sample of the special of the day. Cookies and bars range in price from $1-$3 each, and Kim is parked at a new location every day. But don’t worry about finding her, sign up for the e-blast and she’ll write you when she’s coming your way!

The Dessert Truck
New on the street, The Dessert Truck is totally dreamy. Always parked on 8th Street and University Place, this truck churns out five-star desserts from 6pm til midnight (and 2am on the weekends!) The culinary mastermind behind this vehicle is Jerome Change, an extremely talented former pastry sous chef at Le Cirque. His business partner, Chris Chen, is the charmer on the front line taking orders and tempting you to come back for more. All desserts are put together on order - Jerome whipped up fresh cream in front of our very eyes with his kitchenaid last night! The tastes are out of this world. Two Urbanistas split “An Apple a Day” and the “Milk Chocolate and Peanut Butter” mousse (which comes topped with caramel corn!) after a scrumptious dinner at Market Table (more on that later). Well, split may not be the right word; we nearly came to blows when it was time to give up our dish and trade for the other… The Dessert Truck offers four dishes served warm and four served cold, all $5 each. Open 6 nights a week, you have ample time to sample them all (and you should!)
